S&K Mission Support serves the U.S. Forest Service’s Plumas Community Protection Project within Plumas National Forest (PNF). This project spans 185,000 acres and is focused on safeguarding communities by protecting critical areas and ecosystems at risk of wildfires, ranging from moderate to very high hazard potential.
The SKMS team is responsible for key aspects of the project, including project and budget management, contract oversight, geographic information systems (GIS), and database management.
In its first year, the project, in collaboration with various partners, successfully completed multiple National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) processes and treated over 61,000 acres. These efforts have improved road systems, reduced fuel buildup through thinning and controlled burns, and safeguarded critical infrastructure and the watersheds that support them. The project aims to serve as a model for wildfire risk reduction in other forests across the western U.S.
